Ventilation Requirements
All heaters require ventilation for proper operation. The L.B. White
GreenGro is no different. The GreenGro requires 2.5 CFM per
1000 Btu/h of air exchange. For a GreenGro 220, this translates to
550 CFM of air exchange for an indoor installation, and 220 square
inches of exit area for an outside mount. Similarly, a GreenGro 120
requires 300 CFM per indoor mount, and 120 square inches of exit
area per outdoor mount.
To make installation easy, L.B. White offers several preassembled
ventilation equipment packages. The following ventilation is required
for maximum performance.

Thermal efficiency means the difference between heat or energy input and heat output and is dependent on the design and construction of the heater and fuel source. For direct fired heater such as the LB White Greengro Series designed and constructed exclusively for greenhouses, it is designed to extract as much heat as possible from propane or natural gas and put it in the greenhouse and which is 99.99% efficient, Whatever heat thats produced goes inside the greenhouse, the other 0.001% consist of product of combustion such (water vapor, (CO, CO2, NO2, NOX, ethylene etc) which are well below the US standard for Heater Discharge. For the conventional gravity or power vented heaters, thermal efficiencies are only 80% because of the heat exchanger. It means that 80% of the heat goes into heating the greenhouse while the other 20% is vented outside of the greenhouse. That is money wasted into heating the air outside of the greenhouse.
Seasonal Efficiency takes into account the air intake required to support combustion and exhaust required to vent any undesired products due to the limitation and design deficiencies of the heater.. For conventional heaters using gravity vent or power vent, the greenhouse will have a negative pressure as outside air are being drawn inside the greenhouse through any openings inside the greenhouse that outside air could find and through the heater and out of the smoke stack or heater vent. Since the smoke stack is always open, the cold outside air will always be drawn inside the greenhouse until the inside pressure is equilized with atmospheric pressure. As for the LB WHite GreenGro series, fresh air is drawn through the powered air intake, heated and blown inside the greenhouse. This action pressuries the greenhouse. Depressuriation depends on how tight or loose the greenhouse just like an inflated balloon, If you looked back at the seasonal efficiency table , the LB White GreenGro Series still has the highest efficiency compared to the conventional gravity or powered vent system.
All heaters require ventilation to support combustion and for proper operation. In the conventional gravity or power vented heaters, ventilation are built-in to the greenhouse as the heater is using the inside air and of course outside air being drawn inside the greenhouse for combustion and 20% or more of the heat and the product of combustions (CO, CO2, NO2, NOX, ethylene etc) are vented in the atmosphere which results in inefficiency. Also, once the vented heaters are operational, to keep the presure/air balance, cold air is being drawn from any infiltration in the greenhouse further reducing the inefficiency to 65-78% efficiency. In dollar terms, if you're spending $10,000 for the heating season, $6,500 to $7,800 are being spent in heating the plants while $2,200 to $3,500 are being wasted into thin air. Any leaks from the heater to the smoke stack for a vented heater inside the greenhouse would be devastating to the plants. The same can be said of any leaks from either natural gas or propane inside the greenhouse.
For a direct-fired heater like the L.B. White GreenGro ventilation is no different. The GreenGro still need air to support combustion, however, since it is direct fired, all the heat and the product of combustion (water vapor, CO,CO2, NO2, NOx, ethylene etc ) are all released directly inside the greenhouse so that no heat is wasted hence the 99.9% efficiency. However, as the GreenGro heater keeps on running , it uses the air inside the Greenhouse to support combustion but in so doing, without any fresh air/oxygen and exhaust to keep the pressure/air balance, oxygen consumption is is being depleted there would be a build up of combustion byproducts like carbon monoxide and specially ethylene where the plants are sensitive to. Even if the GreenGro is designed to be 99.9% efficient, there is still the matter of the 0.1% unburned fuel. In order to mitigate the buildup of ethylene and unburned fuel which is damaging to the plants, fresh air intake and to maintain the required air exchange, exhaust are required. The GreenGro requires 2.5 CFM per 1000 Btu/h of air exchange. For a GreenGro 220, this translates to 550 CFM of air exchange for an indoor installation, and 220 square inches of exit area for an outside mount. If your greenhouse already has exhaust louvre next to exhaust fan and the greenhouse is not tight, then the power exhaust fan is not required. Similarly, a GreenGro 120 requires 300 CFM per indoor mount, and the equivalent of 120 square inches of exit area per outdoor mount.
You may think that your 6" to 10" smoke stack is large enough for the exhaust. but if you look at your existing exhaust stack, its connected to the heater, heat exchanger, burner and finally the burner motor. Tthe motor for the burner has some adjustment to calibrate the amount of opening to draw in surrounding air/oxygen with the fuel mixture for optimum combustion. The opening is small and is insufficient for proper exhaust. Therefore, you'd still need the ventilation kit (power intake a must and power exhaust for inside installation of GreenGro heater if the greenhouse is tight and does not have any exhaust louver next to an exhaust fan.and power intake and shuttered exhaust louver for outside installation of GreenGro heater). If your greenhouse already has exhaust louvers and exhaust fans and the greenhouse is loose, all you need is the power intake as fresh air is always required when the heater is firing.
A .For new greenhouses, in addition to the building permit, you might as well apply for permits for the installation of heaters, gas tanks, gas lines. Check with your local building officials to the requirements..
A. Its best to have the heaters installed by licensed contractors from mechanical, piping and electrical standpoint. Being professionals, they should be able to comply with all necessary and safe installation in accordance with the latest building code.
A . Heater, mounting/ventilation kit or email dragon@dragonagro.com or call sales at 1-732-297-2829 for specifics.
About 1 to 2 weeks directly from the factory during the off season , longer during the Heating Season.
One-year product warranty plus a 10- year warranty against heat chamber and case corrosion from date of purchase. Customer to be responsible for shipping to/from factory for parts..
